How to get started
I am beyond grateful to have met Dr. Ashley. I sustained an injury to my back in the gym a few months back doing a weight lifting program which was exacerbated by multiple life stressors. I was told by a few doctors I would never do CrossFit again. Fast forward a few months after working with Ashley I am back doing CrossFit (my favorite sport), having pretty much cleaned up my technique in all major lifts and am also consistently complimented on my form. In addition, I’m working closely with Ashley on addressing my weakness in CrossFit, like gymnastics. I’m really hopeful and plan to do another competition at some point in the future. Ashley is also super smart, extremely thorough, and has great energy…just an all around awesome guy. If you are looking for a PT your search should absolutely end here! Ashley broke down and analyzed every part of my movements (not JUST my back issues). He was able to identify what else was actually contributing to my back pain, and after just one session with him I felt better than I had with all the other PT/Chiros I had seen before. It was so comforting to know that we were working though the treatments together in a dynamic team effort. I really appreciated that he listened to what I had to say and that he took that into account when planning his treatments. Even after the treatments with my back, I decided that I wanted to continue seeing him to improve and refine my functional movements to reduce the likelihood of this occurring again. As a CrossFitter and powerlifter getting ready for a meet (about a month out) I was having SHOOTING pain in my hip and couldn’t squat without crying. Of course I tried ice, rest, etc. to just take some time off and without avail the pain never subsided. I went to my sports medicine doctor who gave me an x-ray and called it bursitis – he said I can rest it (which I was doing) and then get a cortisone shot if needed. Under the age of 30 and pretty healthy, I wanted a second opinion to find out WHY I had bursitis out of no where. So I ran to Dr. Mak. THANKFULLY due to Dr. Mak’s testing and thorough analysis, I found out I was misdiagnosed (thank goodness I didn’t get the shot because it would have meant more harm than good!). After one visit with Dr. Mak my hip pain was subsided- two days later I could squat 225# for reps with minimal pain. After my second visit with Dr. Mak, I hit a PR before my meet and had ZERO pain. I’ll continue to see Dr. Mak as needed as an athlete. I’ve run through a couple PTs as an athlete, but my experience with Dr. Mak was far more thorough and analytical – finding out my body mechanics for rehab and technique as I move forward in my passion for fitness and competing. He took the time to hear the change in my body’s response, he took even more time to figure out the why, and then focused on correcting movements and technique so I can move without pain again.
