HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY!

So I did something this weekend

This weekend I attended a course that focused on working with the spine, which included the neck, low back, mid back, and nerves. The biggest lesson gathered from this weekend is that movement is very crucial to healing and eliminating pain. Movement can be placed into three different categories: Specific, general, and immobility (descending in order of importance). This means that something is way better than nothing (aka ‘rest’) when dealing with injuries.

We as humans spend the majority of our lives being sedentary, especially with the rise in technology. So when you have an injury while following a workout program, rest can be helpful for the first 48 hours to allow the body to recover and heal, but after that ‘resting’ or staying sedentary can actually result in more problems than solutions. Expect your joints to get stiff, energy levels decrease, and minimal movement can actually facilitate scar formation. All of this will make returning to a fitness program harder and harder.

You can mitigate the effects of an injury by doing the following:

  1. Move within the pain free range of motion. Tension and stiffness is ok as long as the pain doesn’t get produced. No need to move fast, or lift resistance, just move. Use this to lubricate your joints, tissues and reduce the risk of scar formation.

  2. Work around the injury. You have multiple body parts and you have a heart to train. The coaches here at Hudson River Fitness can actually help you make the necessary modifications in our private training sessions or even class.

  3. Minimize alcohol intake. This can actually inhibit healing. So if you want to feel better and recover faster, than hold off on the booze. For now. We are actually running a Sober November challenge here at the gym. If you’d like to participate, just reply to this message!

  4. Eat a ton of veggies! This can help out significantly with healing as you fuel yourself with high quality ingredients. If you are looking for help on this, join in on our 28 Nutrition challenge. This is going to help you reset your eating habits so that you can feel better as well as look better. Be part of an amazing group that will provide actionable steps for you to be successful while also holding you accountable to develop the right way to fuel your body. It is $149 to enroll with the possibility to win a $25 credit towards other coaching services. Click here to sign up now

  5. Seek out help from a professional. If the professional tells you to ‘rest’ and do no activity, seek out the help from another professional. Physical therapists are actually perfect to help you recover from an injury if you are active or wishing to be active. Hudson River Fitness is the only gym in Hoboken that is owned by a Physical Therapist. That means that you will be provided an intense, effective and safe workout program to help you towards your goals.

So if you are injured or coming back from an injury and are looking to get back into a routine that is going to help you stay active, book your free no sweat intro with one of our success team members here. We will sit down with you and create a plan of action for you.

Have a great week!
