Is it too late for you?

Good morning,

A new research study has identified that “late fitness bloomers” had a 40% decrease in cardiac related deaths and a 15% decrease in cancer related deaths as compared to people who didn’t exercise (1).

What this means is that if you’ve never been an avid exerciser, gym-goer, or athlete, it’s not too late to start now. There are many avenues that you can pursue to take control of your health so that you can live a healthier, longer, and pain free life. If you are ready to take charge of your health, but have no idea where to start, here are a few action steps for you:

  1. Start small. Add a little extra activity to your day, it can be adding an extra set of stairs to your day, reducing elevator us, or even walking around town with a little extra weight in your backpack. If you are developing a little sweat, you are heading in the right direction.

  2. Implement strength training into your day. You can add resistance to anything you do such as carrying all your groceries from Shoprite, or better yet Trader Joe’s. You can also focus on full body exercises such as squats, deadlifts, pushups, and ring rows. Strength training is also very crucial to muscle development which is another positive indicator of health.

  3. Find a workout partner. If you are nervous to start this journey on your own, find a friend who would be interested in starting with you. This will make the workouts more fun and enjoyable, which will improve consistency.

  4. Make sure that you are resting adequately. Start with 30-45 minute workout/exercise sessions at 2-3x/week. You will feel sore at the beginning but with proper rest, hydration and stretching, you will recover faster. The good thing is that you will be able to experience fantastic results with as little as three sessions per week.

  5. Hire a coach to guide you every step of the way. You make 1000s of decisions everyday, Leave the decision on what workouts to do to a professional coach who has your goals in mind. Communication with your coach is crucial to establish expectations, bench marks and a plan of action to help you.

It is never too late to get started. So if you are ready, reach out to a coach today. If you want to hear more about how we can help you. Book a no sweat intro with us today.
