How to recover after the Super Bowl

We hope you enjoyed the game last night. If you watched the Super Bowl, you’re probably experiencing the effects of the following: staying up late, alcohol, and salty/processed foods. If you are feeling bloated, hungover, dehydrated, exhausted, and don’t want to take on the day, then follow these action steps to help you recover as fast as possible.

1) Drink more water. The salt and alcohol from yesterday is going to dehydrate you. Signs that you are experiencing this include darker colored urine, headaches, and overall fatigue. Before you reach for that second cup of coffee, make sure that you’re hydrating. General rule of thumb, take your body weight, cut it in half, and drink that number in ounces. Example: 200lbs-> 100 oz of water (roughly).

2) Eat some vegetables. Nachos, wings, and beer will cause bloating and discomfort. Add fiber to your day to help with digesting all the food you ate yesterday. Not a fan of salads? Go for sauteed greens like kale, collards, and broccoli.

3) Get moving. If you worked out this morning, kudos to you! If you needed to sleep in this morning, no worries. Just make sure that you take a 30 minute break today to go for a walk (not including your commute). If you plan on working out this evening, then you should be good to go.

4) Don’t beat yourself up about last night. If this is your first “cheat” day since the new year, congratulations on sticking with your plan for this length! Now just go back to what you were doing before. If you need help with finding a regular nutrition plan that can work for you, book a free no snack intro with our nutrition coach, Amber Trejo, MS in nutrition by clicking on this link.

It’s totally ok to enjoy the foods and drinks that you love on Super Bowl Sunday. Follow the action steps today and you’ll be just fine today.
