Foods that Help with Sciatica

The causes of Sciatica can vary, although it most commonly occurs when a herniated disc or narrowing of the spine compresses part of the nerve. It can also be caused by inflammation. Other times, it can be caused by a poor diet without enough fiber. So what are some of the best foods you can eat to help with sciatica pain?

Even though it’s triggered by different sources, the main focus when it comes to nutrition should be to control inflammation. Opt for foods high in omega 3s, B vitamins and antioxidants. Blueberries contain powerful antioxidants. Well, pineapples contain digestive enzymes which help break down inflammatory cells within the body. It’s also crucial to increase your magnesium intake since most of the population is deficient. This nutrient aids your body in releasing muscle contractions and can promote sciatic nerve regeneration. Focus on foods like spinach, swiss chard, and kale. Dark chocolate, at least 70%. Pumpkin seeds, black beans, avocados, figs and apricot, bananas, brown rice, and fatty fish. Coconut oil may be one of the most powerful foods that help with sciatica. You can add a small teaspoon of it into your morning coffee or make a tea of it with ginger and turmeric.
