What you say to your doctor will influence your care.
Why this matters:
Medical professionals are scientists. That means that they need to get all of the necessary information in order to make a decision. This decision is a “hypothesis” or an educated guess. Based on that guess, they can determine what the next steps for your recovery are. The results will be determined by whether or not they are correct. But that is all based on what YOU tell them. It is important to provide all of the information needed for them to come up with a diagnosis and treatment. This will go with all healthcare providers and even people who exist to help you.
Action steps:
Retrace your pain journey. Answer the questions below:
When did your pain start? What do you think led to this pain in the first place? What makes you feel better? What makes you feel worse? How would you describe the pain? How does the pain behave during the day (morning, midday, night). What have you tried to feel better?
Share these questions with your provider and they should have a better idea of what is going on. Feel free to share them with me. I would love to help.
