Are you a butt sitter?
Why this matters:
When sitting, you’re placing weight on your pelvis and buttocks. Rounding your back also occurs in this position. So how can we sit without pain? You can for sure grab a lumbar roll to support your back, but not everyone will have access to a roll. The other option is changing up your sitting position.
When rocking onto the sit bones, you are placing your spine into a more neutral position and you’re taking the weight off your buttocks (which can be irritating the sciatic nerve).
Action steps:
This is a simple way to help find your sit bones. You’ll notice that you can sit with less pain or you can sit longer before the pain comes on. You don’t have to hold this position all day, but it will allow you to tolerate sitting for longer periods of time.
